PROCTOLOGY

Healing Hands Clinic: A CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN PROCTOLOGY

What is Proctology?

It is a medical specialty dealing with the disorders of the rectum and anal canal. Common conditions affecting this region include piles, constipation, fissure, fistula, prolapse etc.

The modern times have witnessed a change in people’s approach towards their health. An increasing awareness owing to the availability of internet and other media encourages each of us to seek the best in a particular field. It is no wonder then, that people prefer super specialists when it comes to availing medical services. Thus was born the idea of a Proctology clinic that would cater exclusively to disorders of the rectum and anal canal. Healing Hands Clinic is Pune’s first such clinic and amongst the few in the country.

Healing Hands Clinic has been certified ‘Centre of Excellence in 3D Mesh Hernia Repair’ by Dr Antonio Longo, world-renowned colorectal surgeon and inventor of Stapler Surgery for piles and STARR Surgery for chronic constipation.

WE OFFER WORLD CLASS TREATMENT FOR ANORECTAL DISORDERS

FOLLOWING ARE FEW OF THE ADVANCED SURGERIES/LASER TREATMENTS THAT WE OFFER

MIPH/STAPLER SURGERY FOR PILES:

Most of us usually have a notion that piles or haemorrhoids are not permanently curable. However, medical advances have ensured that one no longer has to live with this dreadful condition. With the Stapler technique aka MIPH (Minimally Invasive Procedure for Haemorrhoids), there are no external cuts/stitches, there is minimal pain and very fast recovery. Patient can resume his office work by 5th day.

The maximum number of Stapler surgeries per month are performed at Healing Hands Clinic in the whole of Asia Pacific.

LASER HAEMORHOIDOPLASTY (LHP) FOR PILES

For Grade 2 and selected cases of Grade 3 haemorrhoids, treating piles with Laser is a safe and effective option. It’s a short procedure with minimal pain. There are no cuts or wounds, healing is quick and there is no risk of rectal stenosis.

Leonardo Laser for LHP was first introduced in India at Healing Hands Clinic.

STARR SURGERY FOR CHRONIC CONSTIPATION and RECTAL PROLAPSE

In some cases of Chronic Constipation (those having ODS) and in cases of Partial Rectal Prolapse, STARR (Stapled Trans Anal Rectal Resection) Surgery provides excellent relief. It is a procedure that is performed through the anus, requires no external incisions and leaves no scars. The procedure was invented by Dr Antonio Longo who has certified Healing Hands Clinic (HHC) as ‘Centre of Excellence in Proctology’. In 2009, the first STARR Surgery in Maharashtra was performed at HHC.

FiLaC FOR SIMPLE FISTULA

Fistula is one of the most difficult conditions to treat as it has a tendency to recur. Most of the conventional or old treatments needed long weeks of healing, and even then recurrence was an issue. With the advent of Laser, FiLaC (Fistula Laser Closure) proved to be an excellent way of curing simple fistulas. This procedure, done using the Leonardo Laser, was first introduced in India at Healing Hands Clinic. The healing is excellent and there is no damage to the sphincter.

DLPL FOR COMPLEX FISTULA

Fistula is known for its tendency to recur. Also, a lot of times it’s a Complex or Recurrent fistula that needs to be treated. Considering how bothersome a fistula is, recurrence can leave the patient feeling helpless.

With his vast experience in treating anorectal conditions, Dr Porwal devised his own technique DLPL (Distal Ligation Proximal Laser), which has provided promising results. The technique combines Laser with surgery, and has received a thumbs up from anorectal surgeons in various conferences.

LASER SPHINCTEROTOMY FOR FISSURE

A chronic anal fissure needs surgical intervention. With the availability of Laser, any long term discomfort, that is usually seen with the conventional surgeries, is avoided.

LASER PILONIDOPLASTY

This is a minimally invasive procedure in which a small cut is made to drain out the pus and the entire sinus tract is sealed with Laser energy. The recovery is much faster compared to conventional procedures like Wide excision.

POPS SURGERY FOR FEMALE PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE

This procedure is done for female pelvic organ prolapse which is commonly seen in women after childbearing and with increasing age. It is characterised by sliding down of the urinary bladder, uterus, small bowel and rectum. The surgery was first performed in India at Healing Hands Clinic. It provides excellent relief from symptoms and many women feel like they got a new lease on life after the surgery.

HERNIA

HEALING HANDS CLINIC: A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN 3D MESH HERNIA REPAIR

Progress in technology has brought about a lot of changes in the surgical cure of various disorders. Quick relief, faster recovery and short hospitalisation are the boons of modern science.

Healing Hands Clinic has come up with a specialized Hernia Clinic. One of the most advanced techniques for hernia correction - the 3D Mesh Hernia Repair is routinely performed at the centre and the results have been very encouraging, especially considering the tendency of a hernia to recur after a surgery. Some of the benefits of this surgery are as follows:

  • Minimal number of stitches
  • It provides the benefits of strong posterior repair like a laparoscopic procedure
  • An almost negligible recurrence rate
  • Can be done under local anaesthesia
  • Discharge from the hospital within 24 hours
  • A shorter recovery time compared to the older techniques

Healing Hands Clinic has been recognised as 'Centre of Excellence for 3D Mesh hernia repair' by Dr John Murphy, ex-president - American Hernia Society

VARICOSE VEINS

Although early stages of Varicose Veins can be managed with medicines, stockings and lifestyle modifications, in later stages, an invasive treatment may be needed. With availability of Laser, treatment has become simpler.

At Healing Hands Clinic, Leonardo Laser is used to treat Varicose Veins. With the help of this diode laser, the affected vein is permanently sealed. The procedure is short and the patient feels minimal discomfort.

The Leonardo Laser was first introduced in India at Healing Hands Clinic.

DIAGNOSTIC FACILITIES

MRI Defecography
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) defecography is a non-invasive test that uses magnetic resonance imaging to obtain images at various stages of defecation to evaluate how well the pelvic muscles are working and provide insight into rectal function. It is used to help determine the cause of fecal incontinence, constipation, and other conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse that may interfere with a person’s ability to pass stool.
  • MRI Defecography was first introduced in Pune by Healing Hands Clinic.
Manometry
  • In this test a small device is inserted into your rectum and attached to a machine that measures pressure readings, as you squeeze, relax and push your rectum muscles. This gives an idea of how well the muscles and nerves in and around your rectum are working.
Colonoscopy
  • This test allows a direct visualisation of the inner lining of your intestines. It is done by passing a long flexible tube with a light and camera at the end, through your rectum.
